James H. Mavor of Waverly, Virginia died on July 30, 1998. He was 30.
Jim Mavor matriculated from Waverly and held a bachelor of arts degree in economics from VMI. He was a member of the pistol team for three years and served as its captain during his first class year.
He was employed as a management trainee with Carroll's Food of Virginia in Waverly and was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, James Harville and Mary Hebert Mavor of Waverly; a sister, Mary Catherine Rooney and her husband, John Anthony Rooney, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia; a brother, Harville MacKenzie (Ken) Mavor and his wife, Sandra, of Wakefild, Virginia; and a nephew, James-Jacob Jason Mavor.

Jim's funeral was held August 2, 1998. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend. Jim was my former roommate at VMI for 2 years. He was a good friend and roommate during that time in my life. He will always be someone I remember as I look back on my experiences at VMI.
